Accounting & Compliance Audits
Yes, under MCS Act Section 81, every housing society must get its accounts audited by a certified auditor from the government-approved panel list annually within 4 months of the financial year close (on or before July 31st).
If the audit report is not filed, the Registrar can initiate an inquiry, appoint an external auditor at the society’s expense, and disqualify the Managing Committee members from contesting elections for a period of 5 years.
Under Section 82, the managing committee must submit an Audit Rectification Report (Form O) to the Registrar within 3 months of receiving the audit memo, explaining how the deficiencies pointed out by the auditor have been resolved.
